1919 is going to start having a bi-weekly open mic night! We are running it for donations only instead of the usual $5 cover. We are also going to try to have refreshments like coffee or tea every time. It will be on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of every month.
If you are interested in playing, leave a comment or just show up with an instrument! It will be limited to acoustic acts for now, but who knows in the future.
Please make sure to donate so we can continue to do stuff like this! DIY only works if we all participate!

The 1919 Fun-dRaiser was a huge success. Our goal was $1000, which we met easily and smashed with a final grand total of $2,245! We had a total of 48 contributors. A special thanks to those of y’all that donated at the Trust Fund Punk level of $100 or more! Those fine people are Luke Bagwell, Alex Weymier, Rick Magee, Brian Tomerlin, Jared Lawson, Jessica Gaskamp, Natalie Kahan, Travis Johnson as well as one anonymous contributor!
We will be fulfilling the perks later on in the month by mail. We’ll keep everyone updated on how we’re spending the money! Thanks again for 10 great years!

You guys probably all know Leo. The poofy headed kid who comes to every screamo show that’s ever happened and knows the words to every song? He was in bands like Jubilee and Innards?
He’s been a long time show coordinator at 1919 and countless other places for years. Recently (I’m not sure of the date), Leo and Sharaya had a baby! Technically Sharaya did most of the work.
Say hi to Lorelei Jadelyn Herrera!
If you see Leo and Sharaya at a show be sure to tell them congrats. Be sure to also tell they shouldn’t be at a show. They should be at home taking care of a baby.

1919 recently had a little bit of bad luck that resulted in the front window being smashed out by a few neighborhood kids. There was a gun involved and Rick got punched in the face. We weren’t going to make a big deal about it, but the Dallas Observer wrote an article about it, so I felt I should acknowledge it. Rick is OK and the window is replaced. If you want to help out financially, buy a comp at a show or here or just come out to an event to show your support. Read Rick’s account of what happened here.

The Fort Worth Weekly’s cover story this month is an article about 1919 Hemphill. You can read it here.
Big thanks to Jimmy Fowler for putting the article together and Cri, Amy and Emily for contributing interviews to the story! We are really excited about this!
This article means we won’t have to worry about money anymore, right!?

Thanks for everybody who donates whenever we have rough months. We haven’t had to ask in a very long time and you guys constant support the last 7.5 years has kept us open. Our rent is very cheap and that’s how we manage to keep afloat.
On that note, our cool older brother 924 Gilman in Berkely California is not doing so hot. Their rent is going up $2,700 a month! 924 Gilman is the longest running DIY space in the world and we would all be very sad if it shut down. They are currently taking donations and are offering free shirts with a $25 donation.
Please feel free to throw some of that money you might give to 1919 Hemphill their way. http://www.924gilman.org/blog/
